Breathing Space: Lofty Heights CIC new Caring for Carers Project
Suffolk County Council through Suffolk Community Foundation have awarded a grant specifically to provide practical help to carers. This help can be used for whatever tasks that person chooses - be it garden clearance, cleaning, decluttering, or household maintenance jobs. It is limited to one day's work as a maximum, the carer does not have to prove a caring role by way of benefits but they must live at the same address as the person receiving care. The project spans the whole of Suffolk and has already proved to be an immensely well-received premise.
Speaking for Lofty Heights, Jaki Field says: 'We are delighted to be awarded funds for our Breathing Space Project, we used to do this work through the Caring for Carers funding and it's been an immensely rewarding scheme. We are seeing the effects of austerity in all sectors of our community but the gratitude and relief relayed to us by carers asking for our help is very humbling. So it is very empowering to be able to say yes to requests, and extremely rewarding to find out the difference we are making'
Breathing Space has been running for just two months and it has already helped to clear an out of control garden, declutter a garage to enable mobility scooters to be stored securely, and empty a loft ready for downsizing to a more suitable property.
