Suffolk businesses urged to take up free training for low paid employees

Press release: Monday 1st April 2019:

Adult community learning provider Realise Futures is urging Suffolk businesses to take up a fully-funded training offer, as part of a Government funding scheme aimed at low paid workers.

The social enterprise runs adult community learning courses throughout Suffolk and has written to Suffolk businesses to let them know about the availability of fully-funded courses for staff earning less than £15,736 per annum.

Learning Manager at Realise Futures Jamie Mortimer said: "The Department for Education and Skills has made funding available which entitles adults who are in receipt of a low income to a full fee remission on many adult learning courses. Currently, a low income has been defined as someone earning less than £15,736.30 per year, regardless of how many hours a week they work and of their household income."

He added: "This is an excellent opportunity for the county's workforce, helping business in Suffolk to meet their employees' development needs."

Realise Futures has been providing community learning in the Suffolk for more than 25 years and runs 100+ courses from learning centres based in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft, Stowmarket and Newmarket. The Ofsted graded Good courses cover maths and English, computers and technology, skills for work, health and wellbeing, and family learning.

Mr Mortimer said Realise Futures can help employees with things like developing their computer skills, help with working towards a qualification such as retail and customer service, or support with maths or English, including ESOL, English for Speakers of Other Languages.

He added: "This funding offers an ideal opportunity to meet those needs. We offer a range of courses in our learning centres and other venues countywide, and we may be able to offer a course tailored to the needs of a particular sector."

Realise Futures is one of the highest-performing adult learning providers in the Eastern region, with a success rate for individuals of 94 per cent.
