The GivingLottery

The GivingLottery

Award winning charity, TheGivingMachine launches new online lottery to support U.K. based schools, charities and community groups.

Tickets will cost £1 with 60p going to good causes, compared to just 25p in the pound for the National Lottery.

The draw will be weekly with a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers, other prizes being £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets.

There are two parts to the GivingLottery scheme. Good causes will be able to set up their own lottery page, and will receive 40p in every pound spent by players using this method. A further 20p in every pound will go into a general GivingMachine good causes support fund, with the remainder being allocated towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.

Players who do not wish to support a specific cause can still take part in the GivingLottery, with 40p of their ticket price going into the general TheGivingMachine good causes support fund.

Richard Morris, TheGivingMachine CEO and co-founder said: "With reduced budgets from central government and community support demands increasing,  good causes everywhere need a boost.  The GivingLottery provides another great opportunity to help all good causes to raise additional money. Our team is committed to lowering the barriers to giving to support the amazing people that work so hard to improve our communities."

TheGivingMachine is a registered charity that already works with over 7,500 UK schools, charities and community groups to convert online shopping from over 2,200 retailers like Amazon, John Lewis and Waitrose & Partners into free donations worth over £1.6m

The lottery was officially launched today and good causes who want to benefit can register now at www.givinglottery.org.uk/good-causes

Supporters will be able to buy tickets from 4th June with the first GivingLottery draw taking place on Saturday 6th July.

A lottery management company, Gatherwell, has been appointed to run the scheme, having already launched similar lotteries elsewhere.

Ben Speare, Gatherwell's managing director, said: "We are delighted that Gatherwell has been awarded the opportunity to run the new GivingLottery. We're looking forward to helping support U.K. based causes in partnership with the GivingLottery."
